Gio Compario

Most of you will have seen the Go Compare advert on the telly, but how many of you know that Gio Compario is the alter ego of WYNNE EVANS from Carmarthen.

Wynne’s parents David & Elizabeth Evans were founder members of The Dyfed Centre. David was a member of the original committee of the centre in 1976. He was also Vice Chairman of the Centre for two years in 1978 and 1979.

Wynne’s formative years in theatre were spent treading the boards of the Lyric Theatre, Carmarthen, where his mother Elizabeth was the Artistic Director and David was stage manager.

He appeared in Carmarthen Youth Opera productions for several years and in fact shared the lead in their production of Annie, alongside David and Margaret Jones’ daughter, Ffion in 1989. He played Daddy Warbucks to Ffion’s Annie.

Both Wynne and his brother Mark trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.

As well as appearing in concerts around the country, Wynne has a close association with Welsh National Opera, English National Opera, as well as appearing with several other opera companies. In 2007 he and his brother Mark started presenting for BBC Radio Wales.

Wynne’s elder brother Huw is a barrister in Cardiff and in fact was the first Dyfed Teenage Chairman in 1980.

Wynne released a charity Christmas single last week, namely “Santa Clause is coming to town” with 25p for every copy downloaded, being donated to The Teenage Cancer Charity.

I’m sure he would appreciate your support in making the song a success.

You can buy it at iTunes or and 25p from every  download will go to Teenage Cancer Trust.
